The FreeBSD Foundation has released an updated version of its Unix-based operating system (OS), just over 21 years after the original launch.
FreeBSD 10.1 improves on the stability and security of the previous release and includes a new console driver, a boot upgrade for hypervisors, and symmetric multiprocessing support.
Other features include an update of the encryption software OpenSSH and OpenSSL, as well as a new automount facility and a patch of the Sendmail email protocol.
10.1 is available as online images which can be installed as a bootable file or over a network, in addition to being available via CD or DVD or as a pre-installed virtual machine (VM) image.
It can also be downloaded from the cloud platforms Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, or downloaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). The FreeBSD 10.1 will be supported until the end of 2016.
