Network security firm Fortinet has introduced FortiGate-800C, a new multi-threat security appliance for medium sized businesses and branch offices of large enterprise.

FortiGate-800C is a security appliance that delivers 20 Gbps of firewall throughput, 6 Gbps of IPS throughput (HTTP traffic) and can support up to 7 million concurrent firewall sessions.

The new appliance provides customers with additional flexibility to select the security application that matches their port density and bandwidth requirements. It delivers 2.1 Gbps of flow-based antivirus protection or 1.7 Gbps of proxy-based throughput.

The new release addresses the bandwidth demands due to the increasing use of content-rich social media and Web 2.0 applications and also addresses the explosion of multiple mobile devices accessing these applications. It also addresses the increase in hard-to-detect attacks being launched from the application layer.

FortiGate-800C features an integrated wireless controller to help secure Wi-Fi connections while the wireless LAN controller helps in managing wireless traffic.

It combines firewall, application control, IP Sec and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention, antivirus, antimalware, antispam and Web filtering into a single device as well as supports IPv6 traffic.
