Former Staffware chief takes over at eg solutions

AIM-listed firm under new leadership

By Jason Stamper

John O’Connell, who successfully sold workflow firm Staffware to Tibco back in 2004, has taken his first executive role by becoming CEO of back-office optimisation firm eg solutions.

O’Connell takes over from eg solutions’ founder Elizabeth Gooch, who is now giving herself the title president and founder. Gooch said she will focus on product development and the new relationship with its major distribution partner, Aspect Software, headquartered in Massachusetts, USA.

O’Connell had joined eg solutions as chairman in March this year. The board of eg solutions said they are hoping he can emulate the success at Staffware, where he grew revenue ten-fold in its last eight years.

O’Connell has hired Rob Glenn, who once led Staffware UK, to be eg solutions’ COO. Kuljit Bawa, who joins from McLaren Software, becomes VP of sales – he was CEO of Staffware in the US before its acquisition.

"I have admired for many years the pioneering of eg, boldly defining the market for back office optimisation," O’Connell said. "It has developed a truly innovative solution that addresses the very real needs of businesses to be more efficient, improve customer service and comply with ever increasing regulations."

"The parallels with Staffware are clear to me, both in the area of optimising administrative processes as well as being, at the beginning, a small, UK software company with an aspiration to be no.1 globally, with all the challenges of educating the market, whilst setting up an international sales and distribution channel," O’Connell said.

Eg solutions does what it calls back office optimisation, or BOO, and says it has around 40 customers.
