The security vendor FireEye has agreed to provide threat tools and intelligence to customers of the broadband firm Telefonica as part of a partnership between the firms.
Telefonica’s managed security service will be augmented with products from FireEye to combat advanced persistent threats (APTs), which are more insidious and damaging than basic cyber-attacks.
Juan Carlos Lopez-Vives, chief executive of Telefonica Business Solutions, said: "Organisations worldwide have to tackle increasingly sophisticated adversaries, advanced threats and a rapidly expanding set of attack vectors.
"By partnering with FireEye, we will jointly provide improved visibility into some of the most advanced attacks, increasing our customer’s cyber resilience and protecting them from potentially serious damage."
Telefonica’s mobile customers will be granted access to FireEye’s Mobile Threat Prevention as part of the deal, adding to the telecoms firm’s mobile device management (MDM) software.
Steve Pataky, VP of worldwide channels and alliances FireEye, said that geography was no barrier for hackers, adding that anybody could be a target if the hacker could gain financially or politically from an attack.
