Facebook to protect users from malware

Social media giant has teamed up with ESET to offer the free ESET Online Scanner.

By CBR Staff Writer

Facebook has teamed up with Slovakian internet security company ESET to offer the free ESET Online Scanner to protect users from malware.

ESET’s solution will not only scan Facebook accounts and identify harmful malware; it will also remove the threat from the user’s device.

The technology will prompt users of suspicious activity within the devices if it shows signs of malware infection.

If any suspicious activity is tracked, users will be able to run the free scanner which is expected to disable the malware without logging out of Facebook.

Facebook software engineer Chetan Gowda said: "Our goal is to offer our users the right technology to improve their experience of our services and better protect their devices."

"ESET Online Scanner for Facebook will significantly decrease the number of malicious links from among the trillions of clicks that take place every day on Facebook."

Previously, the social media giant teamed up with security companies F-Secure and Trend Micro to offer online protection.
