Facebook is set to acquire a speech recognition and language translation app to boost international dialogue between users.
The sale of Mobile Technologies, to the social network giant will allow it to support cross-language chats, and allow users post and view newsfeeds in different languages.
Facebook also may also be able to incorporate voice-input ability to its Graph search tool.
Facebook management director Tom Stocky said voice technology has become an increasingly important way for people to navigate mobile devices and the web.
"We believe this acquisition is an investment in our long-term product roadmap," Stocky said.
Established in 2001, Mobile Technologies has already developed the Jibbigo translation app, which is offered on both Android and iOS platforms.
The app, launched in 2009, can run online and offline, while offering translation in over 25 languages.
