Facebook button resurfaces on Nokia’s Asha 205

The social network has partnered with Nokia for Facebook integration.

While Facebook has yet to release a mobile phone, the social network is having a second try at implementing a Facebook button.

Nokia and Facebook announced that a built-in Facebook button will be on Nokia’s Asha 205.

The Asha 205 will be the first phone by the company to have the social feature which the company says is designed for people who want "one-click access to popular Facebook features."

"People around the world use Facebook mobile to connect and share with their friends, said Javier Olivan, head of growth, engagement and mobile at Facebook. "We are focused on delivering the best Facebook experience to as many as possible and our partnership with Nokia perfectly complements our strategy of giving people around the world a rich Facebook experience for keeping in touch with their friends.

The Facebook button launches the Facebook for Every Phone app when pressed.

Nokia told CBR that the Facebook button is "perfect for those who cannot wait to access their Facebook profiles."

The phone’s facebook button will allow users to chat with friends online, start messages and group chats as well as other features like sharing photos and status updates.

The new Asha 205 phone, which Nokia told CBR, is aimed at "young, urban and highly social consumers," will allow users to save money by having their internet data compressed by up to 90% since Wi-Fi is not available on the $62 phone.

"Globally, young consumers have increasingly started using Facebook for socializing, keeping in touch and striking new friendships. The launch of the Nokia Asha 205 responds to this growing demand and gives them a unique option for accessing Facebook while on-the-go," said Timo Toikkanen, executive vice president of mobile phones at Nokia.

Nokia isn’t the first mobile manufacturer to partner up with the social network to implement a Facebook button. HTC’s salsa and ChaCha also had a facebook button implemented but didn’t sell very well.

Is has yet to be seen if the Facebook button will help create traction for the Asha 205. However, Nokia believes the new Facebook button will specifically attract social-savvy users.

"We have seen that many people who use Nokia Asha devices are hyper-social and we are proud to partner with Facebook to improve the user experience of those consumers further with the introduction of the Facebook button," added Toikkanen.
