Quip aims to compete with Google Drive.

By CBR Staff Writer

Quip app

Facebook’s former CTO has launched a new collaborative word processing app.

Bret Taylor has released Quip, a programme which allows you to embed images and tables as well as write documents.

Currently available on the iPhone, iPad and internet, the app incorporates a mobile-focused interface, a shared checklist in addition to real-time collaboration and features similar to Google Drive.

Sporting a clean interface with chat, document feed and the original document viewed in different swipe-enabled panes, the app includes online and offline editing, automatic formatting to the size of the screen.

It also alerts the creator of the shared document if any changes are made by other users.

Quip also provides a chat thread for team collaboration, and folders that enable selective sharing of documents, while also offers interactive shared lists via the Checklists feature and a document news feed that features all the edited documents.

It also enables offline access to documents, and cross-platform syncing, even though users must access the documents via the browser on their Macs and PCs.

Competing with Google Drive that offers more file formats without any sharing limits, Quip also offers a $12 per month subscription for collaboration among larger teams, which covers up to 250 users.
