Emulex unveils host-based encryption offering

Secures data at the host

By CBR Staff Writer

Emulex has introduced a host-based encryption offering that provides security for data in-flight and at-rest, by securing data where it originates, at the host.

The new offering consists of OneCommand Guardian, Emulex’s new software security product and OneCommand Key Manager, an enterprise-class, Key management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) compliant key manager based on IBM Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager technology.

The security offering can be deployed on servers using the companies OneSecure adapters, or its family of LightPulse 8Gb/s Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs).

In addition, the offerings allows companies to meet their compliance requirements for data protection rules and regulations, such as HiTECH Act, PCI-DSS, European Union Data Protection Directive, Security Breach Disclosure, HIPAA, GLBA, Germany’s Federal Data Protection Act, BASEL II, the UK Data Protection Act and various DoD and NSA mandates.

The offering leverages IBM Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager technology, and OneCommand Key Manger to provide management of encryption key life cycle throughout the enterprise by centralising and simplifying the encryption key management process.

Further, the security offering allows for non-disruptive phased deployment, with eLUN migration and replication support, improved performance using OneSecure adapters that offload encryption processing from the server, and targeted encryption of only the data of specific applications that you need to encrypt.
