EMC has unveiled new Ionix, an IT management software which it claims helps customers to accelerate their migration from physical IT to virtual IT to cloud infrastructures.
Ionix software reportedly combines automated server compliance and configuration softwares, gained from its recent Configuresoft acquisition, with its unified management software portfolio to provide insight and control across physical and virtual IT infrastructures.
According to EMC, over the past five years, EMC has assembled through acquisition, a portfolio of technologies that provide IT management across the data centre, including Smarts, nLayers, Voyence, Infra, ControlCenter and Configuresoft. The new Ionix brings together these products under one unified family that offers customers management capabilities across their physical and virtual IT infrastructures – including servers, networks, storage and applications.
The company says that the new Ionix software spans four categories for the virtualised data centre – Service Discovery and Mapping to provide visibility into applications and their physical and virtual dependencies; IT Operations Intellligence to provide automated root-cause and impact analysis and monitor services across both physical and virtual environments; Data Centre Automation and Compliance; and Service Management to enable customers to deploy IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
Chris Gahagan, senior vice president of EMC Ionix, said: Today’s announcement comes at a critical time for customers who are moving aggressively to virtualise their data centres.
“While virtualisation holds the promise of increased efficiencies and reduced costs, its dynamic nature forces companies to think differently about management – as companies seek new ways to automate, manage, and gain control and compliance of the virtualised data centre. Customers are quickly realising that legacy IT management tools simply cannot keep pace.
Additionally, EMC has revealed that its Resource Management Software Group (RMSG) has been renamed as EMC Ionix.
