Precise said that EMC is reselling Precise for Storage Tiering through EMC Select, a program which helps customers to acquire components that comprise an information infrastructure.

Peter Conway, vice president of Symmetrix business and products operations at EMC, said: “Precise for Storage Tiering enables customers to optimise enterprise flash drive deployment for maximum business transaction throughput in EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON storage environments. The exceptional performance of our enterprise flash drive solutions can now be accurately assigned to the service of specific critical businesses.”

The company said that the Precise for Storage Tiering allows customers to trace transaction performance problems from the end user down to the physical storage device. It determines transaction data assignment to the optimal storage tier according to the business value, performance impact and cost considerations.

Precise said that the thorough monitoring of transaction data allows it to accurately predict the impact of storage tiering on transaction performance. The new software reportedly allows users to identify the performance bottlenecks and optimise their storage investments.

Brian Babineau, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said: “Customers can now use Precise’s detailed storage transaction data to identify specific application performance bottlenecks and determine where the fastest storage resources will have the biggest resolution impact.

“This insight enables customers to target EFD implementations where they provide the most compelling return on investment, or conversely, use more cost-effective storage options when business transaction performance requirements are lower.”
