EMC will acquire network security monitoring and analysis platform outfit NetWitness.

Post acquisition, NetWitness will be included in EMC’s RSA unit. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

NetWitness CEO Amit Yoran said about the acquisition, "Today marks a historic milestone for NetWitness and our journey together. I’m excited to announce that NetWitness Corporation has been acquired by information infrastructure leader EMC Corporation, and will operate as a line of business under RSA, The Security Division of EMC."

NetWitness is expected to extend RSA’s solutions for managing security risk and compliance across both physical and virtual environments. The network security monitoring and analysis platform gives enterprises actionable insights into the activity on their networks.

RSA president Tom Heiser said, "The intensity and sophistication of advanced adversaries and zero-day malware challenge every organization to rethink traditional approaches to network security."

Last month, hackers had breached RSA servers. At that time, RSA chairman Art Coviello had said the attack was believed to be in the category of an advanced persistent threat (APT).

NetWitness had helped RSA in the aftermath of the hack.

RSA’s customers include the military, governments, banks and healthcare firms.
