EC defers decision on Google’s Motorola bid

EC wants the search engine company to provide more information on the deal

By CBR Staff Writer

The European Commission has put on hold its review of Google’s bid for Motorola Mobility as it wants the search engine company to provide more information on the deal.

Google had planned to purchase Motorola Mobility for $12.5bn.

The European Commission’s competition unit spokeswoman Amelia Torres said the deadline was suspended because the (European)Commission needs from Google certain documents that are essential to its evaluation of the transaction. "Once the Commission has all the necessary information, it will re-start the clock and publish a new Phase I deadline on the website," Torres added.

Meanwhile, the Commission has sought a feedback from rivals and users on the deal.

The European Commission had originally set itself a deadline of January 10 for a decision.

The US antitrust regulators are also reviewing the deal.
