The Wi-Fi and video streaming services of the Web forum of the eG8 summit have reportedly developed a snag because of a cyber attack.

Organisers told AFP that wireless connection of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s e-G8 summit was disrupted since Tuesday.

They told AFP, "We have been undergoing a series of attacks and attempted attacks from people outside." They said that though the hackers could not cut off complete access, they managed to caused "disruption" of the Wi-Fi connection and the forum’s video streaming.

Advocacy group that promotes the rights and freedoms of citizens on the Internet La Quadrature du Net has denied its involvement in the cyber-attacks.

Meanwhile, a report in the Wall Street Journal says that Internet activists have planned protests in the networking area outside the main conference centre of the eG8 summit.

Reporters without borders and a journalist from the Quadrature du Net are expected to lead the protests.

The report said that as many as 45 digital rights groups have signed a petition against government regulation of the Internet which Sarkozy had advocated in his opening address of the summit.

The groups said in a press release, "President Sarkozy’s disastrous design for the internet has become glaringly apparent. According to sources who have seen the G8 communiqué to be released at the end of this week’s meetings in Deauville, France, the world’s most developed economies are poised to impose strict copyright enforcement and heavy-handed government regulation of the Internet."
