DivX, a digital media company, and Samsung Electronics have launched the Samsung Mondi, the DivX Certified, WiMAX-equipped mobile internet device. Combining laptop functionality and internet connectivity, the new device reportedly offers DivX video anytime at any location.

The company claimed that DivX technology produces compressed video suited for mobile platforms that require minimal storage for quality experience. Utilising the Mondi’s 4.3-inch touch screen, consumers will be able to playback DivX video stored on the device’s internal 4GB memory or on additional microSD flash cards.

The Mondi can connect to the internet via WiFi or WiMAX and possesses a web browser that allows consumers to download and watch DivX content.

Kevin Hell, chief executive officer of DivX, said: Supporting high-resolution, high-quality video playback on new and emerging mobile devices is one element of our strategy to enable a seamless, end-to-end solution for digital media. The Mondi joins a broad array of other DivX Certified Samsung consumer electronics devices that are a part of the DivX ecosystem. We look forward to partnering with Samsung to bring our robust, high-quality DivX video solution to their next generation of mobile devices, digital TVs, and Blu-ray players.

Products that bear the DivX Certified logo are said to have undergone a testing programme to ensure DivX media experience, including reliable video creation and playback, interoperability with other DivX certified devices and the visual quality users expect from DivX.
