Dell, salesforce.com unveil cloud computing offerings for SMBs

Allows users to integrate cloud technology into their IT environments

Dell and salesforce.com have unveiled new Dell-salesforce.com joint offerings for small and medium businesses (SMBs) that deliver customer relationship management (CRM) applications via the cloud.

The companies said that the new offering will allow small and medium businesses in the US to manage their people and processes more efficiently by deploying sales force automation and CRM across their businesses. The joint offerings require no incremental hardware or software to install or maintain, and allows customers to manage their customer information, activities, and conversations, with subscriptions starting from $9 per user per month.

Under the joint offerings, salesforce.com will provide the CRM platform while Dell will provide the integration and migration services. The Dell–salesforce.com offerings include, Salesforce Contact Manager Edition, Group Edition, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition.

According to the companies, the Salesforce Contact Manager Edition works with any email application including Outlook and Gmail, for cloud-based contact management while the Group Edition provides basic CRM for small groups up to five users. It features Salesforce for Google AdWords, includes all the Contact Manager features and also allows users to track sales opportunities, run sales reports and real-time dashboards.

The Professional Edition includes all features of Group Edition plus no user limit, reports and analytics, custom dashboard, sales forecasting and mobile access; and the Enterprise Edition provides everything in Professional Edition, plus workflow and approvals, advanced security, territory management and offline access.

The companies said that the Dell Integration Services provide fixed low-cost, quick, data migration and integration for businesses. Dell Integration Services include, an Integration Appliance that provides data cleansing and migration tools; a Virtual Integration Appliance that enables users to deploy integration appliance functionality on any hardware in their virtualised environment; and Cloud Integration Service for integrating Salesforce CRM with other cloud computing applications.

Steve Felice, president of global small and medium-sized business operations at Dell, said: “Dell and salesforce.com are providing customers with an integrated and proven solution that we have been testing extensively in our own organisations. Today, salesforce.com runs its datacentres and PCs on Dell equipment and Dell has integrated Salesforce CRM with our on-premise applications using Dell’s PowerEdge servers and Dell Integration Services.”
