Dell and HP select Broadcom’s NetXtreme BCM5761 GbE controller

To securely manage enterprise-class personal computers

By CBR Staff Writer

Dell and HP have selected Broadcom’s NetXtreme BCM5761 GbE controller for their new enterprise-class personal computers.

Featuring Broadcom’s TruManage technology, the BCM5761 controller integrates the latest open client manageability standards and advanced power management features that enable enterprise-class PCs to be fully and securely managed remotely, while maintaining compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star program, said Broadcom.

According to Broadcom, the BCM5761 GbE controller with TruManage technology supports desktop and mobile architecture for system hardware and the platform management component intercommunication protocols that provide OEM customers, such as Dell and HP, with capabilities to manage PCs from a variety of manufacturers across multiple locations using a common framework and tools. It also allows software updates and security patches to be deployed during ‘off-peak’ hours to minimize user downtime while providing support for common features such as remote power, boot control and system status monitoring, added Broadcom.

Vinod Lakhani, senior director and general manager for high-speed controller line of business at Broadcom, said: The adoption of our GbE controller by PC OEM market leaders highlights our leadership in enabling and deploying open standards and energy-efficient solutions. We will continue to drive open standards technologies through our leading position in the distributed management task force and other organizations to bring cost-effective and power-efficient technologies to market.
