Dell chooses Unidesk to enhance desktop virtualisation

Unidesk optimises DVS Enterprise deployments, reducing VDI storage capacity by up to 70%

Dell has introduced DVS Enterprise with Unidesk to enable IT organisations to simplify the complex environments or diverse user needs to implement virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI).

DVS Enterprise combines the new Dell PowerEdge 12th generation servers, Dell storage, Dell network components, broker and hypervisor software, services and end points including thin clients.

Unidesk integrates with technology from both Citrix and VMware to provide the l management capabilities to simplify VDI implementations and reduce overall total cost of ownership.

The DVS Enterprise and Unidesk will enable IT organisations to achieve streamlined IT management and enhanced user experience through Unidesk’s desktop layering technology, even if users require different applications or personalisation.

DVS Enterprise now offers Unidesk as the desktop provisioning and management software component for Citrix XenDesktop or VMware View.

The Unidesk ‘layers’ approach enables persistent and personalised desktops, supports simlified user installed applications, and provides scalability and advanced management options.

The ability to share common layers across many desktops can reduce VDI storage capacity requirements by up to 70%, the company said.

Dell’s mobility solutions vice president and general manager Steve Lalla said, "With Unidesk layering technology added to DVS Enterprise, we make it easier and more affordable for IT to deploy and manage virtual desktops leveraging the DVS Integrated Solutions Stack infrastructure."
