Second Cyber Security Challenge begins

A national competition to find out the UK’s best cyber security experts has started registrations.

Now in its second year, the Cyber Security Challenge seeks to encourage people to understand cyber security and address the paucity of professionals in cyber security in the UK.

The Challenge is a not for profit company. It will identify talented individuals capable of becoming part of the UK’s cyber security profession now and in the future.

The contest is open to people of all ages and qualifications. Starting 1 June, interested people can enter the contest by registering online.

The competition spans for about 12 months and typically comprises series of challenges in three different streams: secure networks, digital forensics and cyber defence.

The 2011 Cyber Security Challenge UK Competitions structure has been developed by the experts from the challenge sponsorship organisations to reflect the most common areas of focus in the field of cyber security.

The Challenge says, "The Cyber Security Challenge is a series of national online games and competitions that will test the cyber security abilities of individuals and teams from every walk of life."

"It is designed to excite and inspire anyone considering a career in the cyber security industry."

Training courses and cash scholarships are among the prizes to be won. Last year’s winner was Dan Summers, a postman from Wakefield, who won prizes worth £6,000.
