A new report from Adobe noted that the overall online sales during Cyber Monday increased by 16% to $2.65bn compared to corresponding period last year.

The latest 2014 Digital Index Online Shopping data for Cyber Monday noted that the top 25 retailers reported 35% growth and captured about $1.8bn, while smaller retailers reported 5% growth.

Adobe Digital Index principal analyst Tamara Gaffney said: "Cyber Monday sales were up 16 percent this year, with the biggest retailers seeing the biggest gains.

"The early birds caught the worms on Cyber Monday, with shoppers getting the steepest discounts in the early morning hours."

During the early hours of the day, customers got the highest discounts of 23% and over half (54%) of online sales were done after regular working hours.

Overall online sales between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday, reached $9.6bn, up 20% YoY, with the season’s total, between 01 November and 01 December, increasing by 14% to $37.9bn.

Smartphones and tablets, which continued to fuel online sales, captured 19% of overall sales and also fuelled equal shares with iOS devices, which generated 79% of total mobile sales.
