CSC has launched new Infrastructure Utility (IU) service for cloud in support of SAP offerings, which is built on Vblock Infrastructure Platforms from VCE the Virtual Computing Environment Company.

The new offering enables organisations to implement new SAP applications or refresh an existing implementation of SAP offerings quickly, easily and at reduced cost.

The new IU supports all aspects of SAP offering-based infrastructure, including compute, storage, back-up/restore, disaster recovery and Basis Layer services.

The offering enables an organisation to bring its licenses for SAP software to the CSC Trusted Cloud anywhere in the world, on premises or off.

In addition, the company enables organisations to rapidly migrate SAP workloads to the cloud and even move workloads between dedicated and shared infrastructures. This hybrid cloud model is enabled by providing consistent cloud fabric, management processes, rate card and service tiers, said the company.

CSC cloud computing and software services vice-president Siki Giunta said by validating improved resource utilisation and operational efficiency with their own implementation of SAP ERP HCM, they can now offer the same performance to their customers.

"The results of the proof-of-concept deployment were impressive. We were able to achieve the same I/O performance and SAPS rating with 60% less resources. In addition, we anticipate that by using the software tools provided with the Vblock platform, we’ll improve our operational efficiency for Basis Layer services and infrastructure management," Giunta said.
