Corero, a provider of network security offerings, has signed an agreement to acquire Top Layer Security, a provider of real-time Intrusion Prevention and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection systems.

Top Layer provides intrusion prevention offerings that secure critical enterprise networks.

Top Layer said through this acquisition, the company provides Corero with a next-gen security platform upon which to build an array of network security offerings.

In addition, Corero is expected to gain access to Top Layer’s employees, which include specialised engineering and technical resources, and an established customer base.

Corero chairman Jens Montanana said Top Layer’s presence in the network IPS and DDoS protection space and commitment to customers makes it an ideal first network security acquisition for Corero.

"In addition to expanding Top Layer’s geographical footprint through a channel focused go-to-market model, we intend to leverage Top Layer’s technology platform to develop network security offerings, such as firewall systems, to respond to the need for higher level content and application level security within the network," Montanana said.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
