Corero partners with Neustar to deliver ‘best of both worlds’ in DDoS protection

Combination of on-premise DDoS mitigation with cloud-based failover services gives Corero customers a hybrid option for DDoS protection.

By Duncan Macrae

Corero Network Security, a provider of First Line of Defense solutions for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and cyber threat protection, has entered into an agreement under the Strategic Alliance Program with Neustar, a provider of cloud-based DDoS protection services.

As a Neustar Strategic Alliance Program partner, Corero is expected to enable its customers to extend the power of its on-premise always on protection with the added security and flexibility of Neustar’s on-demand, cloud-based DDoS protection services to combat growing cyber threats.

DDoS attacks come in all shapes and sizes, from brute force volumetric floods to sophisticated application layer exploits. Regardless of the size or complexity of the attack, the downtime associated with a DDoS attack can result in significant revenue losses with some estimates reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars per incident.

Nirav Shah, director of product management, Corero Network Security, said: "The dilemma facing many organisations is whether to deploy an on-premise DDoS appliance or subscribe to a cloud provider for DDoS protection on-demand. With a hybrid approach to DDoS protection, organisations can rest easy with a solution that combines the best of both worlds."

The Corero DDoS Defense System (DDS) provides always on protection against a range of potential DDoS attacks from low level fragment attacks, through session oriented SYN-floods, to advanced application layer abuse. In cases where a customer needs expert assistance in mitigating an attack or the attack bandwidth exceeds the capacity of an enterprise’s Internet connectivity, additional protection would be provided using a failover service to Neustar’s SiteProtect cloud-based DDoS mitigation service.

Additionally, with the Corero SecureWatch PLUS service, enterprises can benefit from the collaborative communication among the DDoS solution providers, thereby adding threat intelligence and control to their business continuity plan.

Neustar’s Strategic Alliance Program allows partners to promote a cloud-based DDoS mitigation service to their customers. "By extending access to Neustar and our expert mitigation teams, Corero will ensure that its customers are prepared to address the growing threat of DDoS attacks," said Alex Stephenson, CEO, Corero Network Security.
