Cyber attacks on companies have increased by 8% points to 66% in 2013 from 58% reported in previous year, according to Global Corporate IT Security Risks 2013 survey conducted by B2B International in collaboration with Kaspersky Lab.
According to the survey, the companies were attacked using various threats including viruses, worms, spyware, and other types of malicious programmes.
The volume of spam attacks on the companies increased to 61% compared to 55% in 2012, while the phishing attacks were up by 1% to 36%.
Companies in South America were targeted with highest number of malicious attacks during the year with 72% of companies, while 71% of Russian companies were attacked followed by North America, where 70% companies were targeted.
The report revealed that 51% of the North American companies experienced phishing attacks, along with 46% companies from Asia Pacific, while Russia, Japan, and South American countries encountered lowest attacks.
About 22% of companies reported to have suffered data leakages due to different attacks, while 23% of small and mid-sized companies and 17% of large companies were also targeted.
Large companies have experienced most of the data loss caused by the phishing attacks to over 6%, compared to the average of 5% of companies facing such scenario, whereas 5% of the SME have also faced the data loss.
