Service delivery software specialist Civica has expanded its local government business in New Zealand with the acquisition of Practical Computer Services and a part of electionz.com.
Toowoomba, Queensland-based Practical Computer Services supplies fully integrated Windows-based computer systems to local governments. Its IT services include hosted / managed services, data archiving & warehousing, network design, hardware maintenance and more. The company claims to have 121 local government customers, with 95 of them in Queensland.
With the acquisition, Civica will take over Practical’s assets, products, customers as well as the staff, and will make Toowoomba premises its headquarters in Queensland.

Civica expects to strengthen its presence in South Island with the acquisition of the local government arm of electionz.com. Headquartered in Chirstchurch, electionz.com offers software and professional services to the local governments.
Downing said: “The acquisition of electionz.com reinforces our commitment to the New Zealand market. In addition to expanding market share, gaining an office in the South Island is important in strengthening our presence in the country.”
Civica provides software services to local government, social housing, enforcement, education and regulated markets in the UK, Australia, Singapore and the US.
The company says that it has 250 local authority customers in Australia and New Zealand. In May 2008, Civica acquired Fujitsu’s local authority business in the two countries, adding about 60 customers to its own clientele.
