Citrix Systems Inc has tuned its NetScaler application controller product line so as to speed the delivery of interactive Web 2.0 applications.
The vendor claimed revisions made to the application delivery system should also help cut the cost of the infrastructure needed to serve interactive web applications being deployed in banking, auctions, news feed services and the like.
A key characteristic of the new NetScaler Web 2.0 Push technology is its ability to enable ‘publish-and-subscribe’ models of information delivery and to push continuous streams of new or updated information directly from the Citrix server.
According to Citrix, sites using the upgraded product will now be able to transmit data to application users directly from NetScaler systems deployed in front of the data centre, relieving the backend server infrastructure from having to manage individual connections.
Managed service providers, content providers, telcos and enterprises are all looking for ways to optimise their application infrastructure from the core of the data centre all the way out to the edge of the network.
They are starting to deploy high level switches and application optimisation systems that allow network managers to make policy decisions about acceleration, load balancing and security across their local and wide area network infrastructure.

Citrix, which competes against F5 Networks, Cisco Systems and the likes of Blue Coat Systems in this segment, has estimated that the enhancement to NetScaler could help reduce by ten-fold the server capacity needed to serve interactive Web 2.0 applications.
The company has confirmed that existing NetScaler users will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Web 2.0 Push technology.
