Citrix Systems, a provider of virtual computing offerings, has unveiled XenDesktop, which provides the benefits of desktop virtualisation to enterprise laptop users with the addition of two new technologies – XenClient and XenVault.
The company said that the new technologies allows mobile laptop users to incorporate into a unified enterprise desktop virtualisation strategy with security and simplicity.
It also incorporates corporate-owned laptops managed by IT, and user-owned devices brought in by contractors or employees in a bring your own computer (BYOC) program.
With the new offering, companies of all sizes will be able to deploy a single desktop virtualisation offering that supports both desk-based and laptop users in any scenario.
XenClient enables virtual desktops to run directly on client devices; control for IT, flexibility for users; centralised backup and recovery; portable and persistent desktop images; and expanded hardware and device support.
XenVault technology protects and isolates user data; ideal for contractors and BYOC as it supports both virtual and physical desktops; and supports XenApp and App-V.
Citrix desktop division senior vice president and general manager Gordon Payne said that the new release of XenDesktop represents an important next step to realising the benefits that desktop virtualisation can deliver across all users in the enterprise, including the growing number of mobile workers using laptops as their primary device.
"The new XenClient and XenVault technologies extend IT’s ability to manage each desktop component separately, making desktop management far more secure, scalable and cost effective," Payne said.
