Citrix Systems has launched a new desktop virtualisation offering XenDesktop 5, which supports a range of new consumer devices, new third-party products and web and software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps.

Citrix said that the new version of XenDesktop extends the benefits of desktop virtualisation to laptop users, giving them virtual desktops ‘to go’ with the new XenClient hypervisor.

The company said that to support the new XenDesktop 5 release, it has also unveiled a new initiative to help customers move from desktop virtualisation to implementation, leveraging collective wisdom of customers who have transformed their enterprise desktop strategies by ‘going virtual’.

The new XenDesktop 5 supports Microsoft System Center which allows customers to manage applications on physical and virtual desktops, adds new HDX enhancements that improve performance for resource intensive tasks, and supports touch-enabled for new consumer devices including PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

In addition, the new release offers single sign-on access to applications including externally-hosted web, cloud and SaaS apps, and ensures secure BYOC with its XenVault.
