Cisco said that it has completed its purchase of ScanSafe, based in London and San Francisco. ScanSafe is a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS) web security services for organisations ranging from global enterprises to small businesses.
Cisco has earlier acquired IronPort, a provider of messaging security appliances, focusing on enterprise spam and spyware protection for $830m. The acquisition brings together the Cisco IronPort web security appliance and ScanSafe’s SaaS web security service to offer on-premise, hosted and hybrid-hosted web security services.
Cisco expects the combination to provide better protection from threats and enhance its ability to protect the borderless network. ScanSafe’s service will be integrated with AnyConnect VPN Client, a new virtual private network (VPN) product from Cisco, to provide secure mobility service.
With the close of the acquisition, the ScanSafe team becomes part of Cisco’s Security Technology Business Unit (STBU).
