Cisco has partnered with Citrix Systems to provide a new combined desktop virtualisation offering, that will make it easier and cost effective for businesses to deploy high-definition virtual desktops and applications to all users across the enterprise.

The new Cisco Desktop Virtualisation offering with Citrix XenDesktop combines Cisco’s unified computing and Citrix desktop virtualisation technologies including FlexCast and HDX.

The company said that the collaboration is to deliver a scalable and high-performance offering for hosting, securing and optimising the delivery of virtual desktops and applications.

The new desktop virtualisation offering benefits include: accelerates mainstream adoption of desktop virtualisation; service profiles to speed set-up time; and preconfigured kits to ease deployment.

In addition the new offering also includes Cisco’s validated design to help ensure pretested interoperability; combined support services; and open architecture for easy integration.

Citrix desktop division senior vice president and general manager Gordon Payne said that the combined offering they are announcing today represents a significant milestone in delivering on their vision to simplify desktop computing for enterprises around the world.

"The combination of industry leading technology from Citrix and Cisco will help further drive down the costs of desktop virtualisation and speed deployments through a high-performance and scalable architecture," Payne said.
