CBS News has suspended two of its twitter accounts following they were hacked.

The news company reported that the @60Minutes and the @48Hours were hacked and used to tweet messages that criticised US support for terrorist rebels in Syria, according to BBC.

A group that calls itself as the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) claimed to be responsible for hijacking the accounts.

CBS news director Tim Wieland said that the company’s third account, @CBSDenver has also been hacked.

A CBS spokeswoman confirmed that the accounts had been compromised and the organisation was working with Twitter to resolve the issue.

Regarding the messages posted by the hackers on the 60 Minutes Twitter microblog account, a post by the CBS News said, "PLEASE NOTE: Our Twitter account was compromised earlier today. We are working with Twitter to resolve."

"A message that was posted earlier to this account was not written or sent by @60Minutes or its staff," another message read.

The news organisation claims to have removed the fake posts.
