CA Inc has combined some new integrated data modelling, data profiling and reporting features to freshen its venerable ERwin suite, a product that is coming up to its 20th anniversary.

The ERwin Data Modeler toolset is used by analysts to visualise data structures through a graphical user interface so that they can simplify the maintenance of business databases, data warehouses and data models.

The software guides a user on ways to streamline the design process, and will also automatically synchronise the model with the database design.

The most notable product addition made for the latest release include a data profiler tool that should provide a single view into multiple data sources and systems.

Based on a system produced by Exeros Inc for data mapping and automated data relationship discovery, it will scrutinise data held in legacy systems to establish how best it can be structured for efficient use in applications, data marts and data warehouses.

Reporting possibilities for ERwin users have been improved with the addition of BusinessObjects Crystal Reports, and better ties to data management tools such as Oracle Business Intelligence, Cognos and SAP NetWeaver.

CA ERwin Data Modeler and the Data Profiler add-in will sell at $3,995 per seat each, the company said.
