Canon and Oracle have said they will collaborate to integrate Canon’s imaging technology with Oracle offerings to help enable joint customers to increase business efficiencies.
Canon, Canon IT Solutions, Oracle and Oracle Japan are planning to combine imaging technologies from Canon with Oracle software products including Oracle Database, Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle WebCenter, and Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME).
Canon IT Solutions will integrate Oracle capabilities into Canon imaging technology to create a new flexible imaging platform, based on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
With the new platform, Canon IT Solutions plans to begin delivering its printers and copiers in 2012, including imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems, to connect to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and CRM applications including Oracle Applications.
The automating of workflows will be supported by the new platform to achieve increased business efficiencies, including imaging and document processes, Oracle said.
This SOA-ready platform will also connect to imaging devices such as multi-function office systems and printers to enable enterprises streamline business processes by utilising imaging functions such as scanning with OCR processing, merging/partitioning PDFs, and form printing.
Canon managing director and chief executive of Office Imaging Products Operations Masaki Nakaoka said by combining Canon’s imaging devices and technologies with Oracle software, Canon and Oracle can jointly develop new platforms and services through which they can expect to realise exciting new synergies.
Oracle senior vice president of Worldwide ISV & OEM Sales Chris Baker said working closely with Oracle, Canon will leverage Oracle’s leading technologies to create a new, SOA-based platform that they believe will help evolve and modernise the way that companies increase efficiencies across their businesses.
