CA has released new application testing tools InterTest Batch and InterTest for CICS, leveraging its Mainframe 2.0 technology.

The company said that its new testing and debugging tools also feature a graphical user interface (GUI) based on the Eclipse platform to make it easier for users to execute core testing and debugging tasks.

CA has also released a new version of SymDump for CICS, its abend analysis tool that uses mainframe 2.0 implementation functions. CA said that the new releases of InterTest and SymDump for CICS leverage mainframe 2.0 components such as Mainframe Software Manager that automates the implementation and shields IT staff from underlying SMP/E complexities.

The new CA InterTest GUI helps developers to re-use and re-purpose existing mainframe application code in order to improve productivity and support service oriented architecture (SOA) implementations.

The company claims that by plugging CA InterTest tools into larger Eclipse-based integrated development environments, customers can easily debug composite applications that include mainframe, distributed, web, and/or mobile components.

According to CA, InterTest for CICS, InterTest Batch, and SymDump for CICS are key components of CA’s comprehensive suite of mainframe application quality and testing tools that also includes applications for file and IMS data management, batch and system fault management, application performance management and quality assurance testing.

Aline Gerew, senior vice president of software engineering in CA’s mainframe business unit, said: “Conventional approaches to testing and debugging mainframe applications are too slow and inefficient to meet the ‘needed it yesterday’ demands of the business. CA has directly addressed this issue by delivering a new set of solutions that empower our customers to better meet these demands despite their current resource constraints.”
