Otto Berkes, former CTO at HBO and one of the four original Xbox founders, has been named as CA technologies Chief Technology Officer.

Effective June 15, Berkes will be based in New York City and report directly to Chief Executive Officer Mike Gregoire.

"Otto is a respected technology visionary and a coder at heart. He is one of those rare individuals whose technical creativity and leadership led to one of the world’s best-loved products," said Gregoire.

"Otto believes in relentless focus on customer experience and the kind of cutting-edge engineering that will drive CA to new levels of innovation in the Application Economy. We are delighted to welcome him on board."

Berkes most recent position was as CTO at HBO, helping HBO GO become one of the most popular streaming services in the U.S during his tenure.

Prior to HBO, Berkes spent 18 years at Microsoft holding a number of senior positions. In addition to founding Xbox, he was also responsible in leading the DirectX and OpenGL graphics technology development organisations in Windows, developing mobile architectures and user interfaces in Microsoft Research, and driving advanced development while reporting to Microsoft chief software architect Ray Ozzie.

"This is an incredible time to join CA as it is building some of the strongest products in its history," Berkes said.

"As CTO, I intend to work with CA’s outstanding technologists to build on that foundation and to accelerate the company’s offerings enabling the ongoing software transformation of business. I can’t wait to get started."
