CA Technologies has said that Bird Hosting, a cloud service provider and 3Tera customer, has signed a multi-year license agreement to extend the company’s previous month-to-month arrangement and triple the number of servers running the software.

Bird Hosting has managed its catalog of services including: shared hosting, virtual servers, clustered servers and virtual private data centres (VPDCs) on the CA 3Tera AppLogic platform since early 2009.

This transition by Bird Hosting to CA 3Tera AppLogic platform enabled the company to reduce its data centre footprint by 64%, and to consolidate 200 servers to 10 in one data centre alone, the company claimed.

In addition, by serving multiple customers from a single grid environment and allocating processing power and memory based on the needs of individual customers, the company expanded its services beyond basic ‘one customer per server’ web hosting.

Bird Hosting president Michael Wallace said the CA 3Tera AppLogic platform has helped them expand their services to include those which are attractive to large enterprises, without compromising customer service or adding to their overhead costs.

"Using CA 3Tera AppLogic software allows us to offer complex, value-added services that our larger customers demand, while continuing to meet the needs of all 3,600 customers- no matter their size," Wallace said.
