The majority of UK IT professional’s are now taking a proactive approach to employee cloud use policies following the NSA’s recent PRISM revelations.
An increased level of awareness has lead to 64% of businesses considering, or already putting in place, an official policy restricting employee use of consumer cloud services such as iCloud and Dropbox, according to IaaS provider Databarracks.
The annual Data Health Check report additionally shows that 43% of organisations are reviewing their security policies in light of the PRISM fallout.
Peter Groucutt, managing director for Databarracks, believes the research reveals a positive change in attitude: "Organisations are no longer seeing this as a roadblock, but rather an opportunity to review their current security practices and implement effective new policies that protect their data and enable a more confident move to cloud services."
This proactive response to cloud security reflects the report’s findings that over 60% of IT professionals identify security procedures and policies as the most important aspect they look for when selecting a cloud service provider.
