BT has launched Carbon Impact Assessment service in Benelux, designed to help corporate and public sector organisations reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

According to BT, the new service enables organisations to calculate the amount of CO2 emissions produced as a result of the use of networked IT services. It is expected to allow organisations to identify the areas for improvement and provide a set of services to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

The company said that the carbon assessment takes into account the way people’s work patterns contribute to CO2 emissions, and how business operations, shared services and building infrastructure add to an organisation’s carbon footprint. The approach allows a number of business scenarios to be tested and an assessment of the associated energy and carbon reductions.

Bas Burger, CEO BT Benelux, said: “Our carbon impact assessment service not only benefits the environment through reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint, but also helps organisations to achieve cost savings. Organisations which achieve both will come out the economic crisis much stronger than the competition.

“When looking at clients’ CO2 emissions, we explore both the required behaviour change as well as any adjustments to their network- and IT-infrastructure. Many of our customers have yet to take action in this area and can benefit significantly from BT’s learning and capabilities to help them in their development of more sustainable business solutions.”
