A British teenager has been crowned world champion Microsoft Word 2007 user.
Kieran Youngman, a student at Sawtry Community College in Cambridgeshire, beat 344,000 entrants worldwide to win $5,000 (£3,000) and a trophy.
As part of the Washington-based final, a hundred finalists had to present Word documents using inventive skills against the clock.
Youngman said: "Career-wise I think it will show any employers I know how to use a Microsoft Office product.
"With school, I’ll be able to write reports and essays and stuff and make it a bit more fancy, to hopefully get a few extra marks."
The silver medal was awarded to Yi-Ping Lui from Taiwan, while Emily Peet from North America came third.
Alison Cunard, general manager at Microsoft Learning Experiences Group, said: "More than 650,000 exams were uploaded as part of this competition, so these student winners are truly the best of the best at effectively using Microsoft Office tools."
Rebecca Rickwood, another student at Sawtry Community College, came first in the Excel category at Microsoft’s World Championship in 2011.
The competition, organised by Certiport, has been running for 12 years and will be held in Anaheim, California, in 2014.
