British firm Ovivo Mobile closes without notice

Users are left with inaccessible phone or data connection.

By CBR Staff Writer

A UK mobile network operator Ovivo Mobile did not even notify its users when it abruptly closed its services yesterday.

The company, which allowed users access to Vodafone’s network with no monthly fee, put a notice up on its site yesterday citing "reasons beyond our control".

In addition to being left with inaccessible phone or data connections, users are not even able to access Ovivo’s system to retrieve unused credit, leaving both new and existing customers cashless.

The mobile operator said in its notice: "We are very sad to announce that for reasons beyond our control, OvivoMobile is closing down on the evening of Wednesday 19th March 2014.

"We’d like to thank each and every one of you for your support and friendship over the last two years."

Ovivo offered free minutes, calls, and data for no monthly fee, while it was funded via advertising, which users agreed to view every 10 minutes.

Customers are now asked to fill out a form in a bid to retain their number and they would receive porting authorisation code (PAC) as soon as possible.

"We will arrange for your PAC code to arrive as quickly as possible but there is a high demand for this service," the company added.

Reports across the web put its number of customers at around 50,000.
