Box is working with the Government Digital Service to provide content sharing and collaboration to government departments.
The Cabinet Office’s Senior Information Risk Owner, Mark Fisher, approved Box for use in sharing information at an official level both internally and externally. Box will be used to enhance flexibility for file-sharing and improve collaboration within the workforce.
The selection of Box represents a move to formalise the file sharing process within the organisation, preventing employees from resorting to consumer applications. Enterprises and government agencies generally have higher security requirements. Box claims to provide a platform that is "both secure and easy to use."
Box technology is already available for British government departments through G-Cloud Digital marketplace. It is also used by the US Department of Justice.
"Technology has advanced dramatically and new ways of working can mean legacy IT solutions are not always suitable for today’s government, which often needs to manage critical content easily and securely from anywhere and on any device," said David Quantrell, Box senior vice president and general manager of EMEA.
Quantrell added: "The GDS is a pioneer in deploying innovative technology and as it expands its collaboration portfolio it is encouraging wider cross-government cooperation."
