Bosch SI signs Industrial IoT alliance with PTC

News: Companies on quest to improve interoperability and intelligence of things.

By Joao Lima

PTC and Bosch Software Innovations (Bosch SI) today announced at LiveWorx in Stuttgart, Germany, a technology alliance to facilitate the integration of the ThingWorx Platform and the Bosch IoT Suite. Speaking in front of an audience of over 2,000 people, PTC CEO Jim Heppelmann said the collaboration targets the development of solutions for the Industrial IoT (IIoT). He said: "Bosh has an ambition to reinvent its own future. We share a common vision for how the connected world is evolving.  "Things are changing; the world is changing; the way we do things is changing. The new reality is impacting us. It is a key opportunity if you grab it, it is a threat if you don’t. " The company will be offering its IoT platform, ThingWorx, which in combination with Bosch’s IoT Suite enables integration of smart, connected products with cross-sector enterprise processes. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Kallenbach, CEO Bosch SI, said: "IoT has the potential to disrupt many areas. This is a new complex world. We are convinced nobody can do this this alone, so it is important to have a partners ecosystem. These things do not happen overnight." The new Bosch IoT Suite M2M Connector for ThingWorx allows for technical interplay between the two platforms and is now available on the ThingWorx Marketplace.  The companies said the technology stack enables IoT developers to connect and control heterogeneous devices and systems, cost-effectively and rapidly develop IoT applications for complex IT landscapes, and easily and quickly adjust IoT solutions to the specific needs of individual companies and sectors. Heppelmann said: "The changing nature of products is disrupting value chains, forcing companies to rethink and retool nearly everything they do internally.

"Products are becoming more sophisticated, more digital, and fundamentally more valuable. The notion of a product has changed."
