Blue Coat Systems, a provider of application delivery networking, has expanded its WebPulse collaborative cloud-based defense with the addition of a fifth data centre in Australia.

Blue Coat said that the new data centre enhances the speed of dynamic ratings for regional customers while increasing web awareness and protection against evolving web-based threats for WebPulse users.

According to Blue Coat, the WebPulse service works in conjunction with WebFilter to provide a first line of defense for malicious threats and categorisation of URLs. The WebPulse utilises web intelligence, in-depth threat analysis and malware detection to identify malware, phishing and other malicious content that utilise dynamic link chains across multiple websites.

With the addition of the new data centre in Australia, WebPulse users benefit from a distributed global network which includes five global data centres located in the US, Europe and Asia, the company claims.

In addition, Blue Coat ProxyClient software automatically connects to the WebPulse service to provide the latest intelligence on new web content and threats to protect remote and mobile workers, the company said.

Carrie Oakes, vice president of product marketing at Blue Coat Systems, said: “WebPulse is at the foundation of the hybrid Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution and delivers on-demand security intelligence that protects users in any location at any time.

“Combining real-time inputs from users worldwide with cloud-based content analysis through WebPulse provides users with 24/7 protection from web-based threats.”
