Blizzard to trial new in-game payment scheme

Previously, gamers could only spend real money in out-of-game stores.

By CBR Staff Writer

World of Warcraft game-maker, Blizzard, has revealed plans to trial the new in-game micro payments to the popular gaming title, enabling players use real money for purchasing goods in the game.

Earlier, the gamers were only allowed to spend real money in out-of-game stores in buying pets and mounts for their title characters.

Blizzard said in a statement that the firm is currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game.

"As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR," the company said. "We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses."

Under the new payment scheme, players will be initially allowed to buy a potion that increases the experience points gained gain from kills and loot.

The US videogame maker’s latest move comes to contrast its declining player base, which has lost about 1.3 million gamers in the initial three months of 2013.

Earlier, Blizzard also attracted players by making the World of Warcraft game to be played for free up to level 20 and launching new playable races.
