BlackBerry has won a lawsuit against semiconductor firm NXP, which had accused the Canadian smartphone maker of infringing three of its wireless communications patents in April 2012.
NXP filed a lawsuit against BlackBerry, then known as Research in Motion (RIM), alleging that its phones and PlayBook tablet infringed its patented technologies for design, data transmission and other features.
The jury at the US District Court in Florida said the claims were found to be invalid.
BlackBerry chief legal officer Steve Zipperstein said the company is pleased with the jury’s verdict.
"While this is a victory for BlackBerry, we look forward to a time when technology companies will no longer be forced to spend huge amounts of time and money defending frivolous patent cases such as these, and instead invest their resources to drive innovation," Zipperstein said.
"Until then, we will vigorously defend our intellectual property rights and contest all meritless claims."
