BlackBerry updates BBM

Update fixes glitches and introduces 'tell your friends' feature.

By Ben Sullivan

BlackBerry has rolled out its latest update for the BBM service on iPhone and Android platforms.

BBM, which has been downloaded more than 25 million times since its relaunch in October, has been upgraded to fix glitches and add new features.

On iOS, BBM is now supported on iPod and iPad devices, and the glitch which made some contact names disappear has been fixed.

BlackBerry has also launched a ‘tell your friends’ feature to help you connect using BBM’s sharing tools.

More features include the ability to invite contacts to BBM groups by email without the need to know their PIN.

The free download, which used to only be available on BlackBerry phones, can now carry out both on on on e chats and group chats, and users are also able to share photos and files.

However, BBM is still having trouble keeping up with the 200 million users that use competing Android app, Whatsapp, with only 80 million users.
