BlackBerry is planning to discontinue its BBM Music streaming music service from 02 June, following a ‘strategic business review’ of its offerings.

Prior to shutting down the service, paid subscribers will be billed for April, and they are to be offered free streaming from May when BlackBerry will offer another music app, Rdio, on a 30-day trial basis.

Launched in August 2011 as a $4.99-per-month service, BBM Music enables users to share music via the BlackBerry Messenger instant-messaging platform, rivalling similar services offered by Spotify and Pandora Media.

However, the service allowed users to only share up to 50 songs from a directory of millions of tracks for their own personal playlist.

On 31 January, Research In Motion, changed its official name to BlackBerry and launched its new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10.
