Bitstream has released a new version of text composition engine Panorama, which enables developers to compose and render text in any international language. The upgrade includes various new layout capabilities APIs, filters and text effects.

The company said that the Panorama enables developers and OEMs to layout, position, substitute and render characters in all of the world’s languages via a single API. Unlike Latin-based languages, Eastern scripts such as Thai, Arabic, Devanagari and Hebrew require complex considerations to compose blocks of text.

In addition, the company also released Font Fusion 5.5, featuring new APIs, performance enhancements and filters, as well as enhanced access to TrueType tables.

The upgrades and optimisations in new version of Font Fusion are designed to extend the functionality of its premier font subsystem that renders characters in any format, at any resolution, on any platform or device, the company said.

According to Bitstream, the new version includes several new features such as support for enhanced layout; Avoid Rects that enable developers to flow text around graphics or images; the addition of variable thickness to the outline filter; upgrades in shaping, dynamic editing and alpha rendering; additional glow filter support; and enhanced performance for non-ram fonts.

Font Fusion 5.5 includes new features including, enhancements and improved performance of outline bold filter; font manager enhancements allowing for better control of font streams; additional control features for outline and border filters; and enhanced access to TrueType tables.
