Chinese search giant Baidu has struck a deal with Nokia under which the company’s HERE, a navigation service, will power the search giant’s new desktop and mobile map services outside of China.

Baidu’s location services already helps Chinese travelers plan their trips ahead of their journey, with desktop version of Baidu Maps being used for HERE map content already.

HERE is a dedicated location company which claims to have the best maps in the world, covering 200 countries and providing turn-by-turn navigation for 118 countries.

Baidu’s Android and iOS versions has started adding content to cover Taiwan, while other locations are to follow soon. It will make Baidu the first Chinese company to provide location-based services to Chinese globetrotters.

HERE SVP Bruno Bourguet said: "Every day, millions of people count on HERE to explore the world and discover new places whether at home or on the go."

"Together with Baidu, a new customer for us, we want to help the growing number of Chinese tourists get the most from their travels."

According to reports Baidu is planning major expansion beyond China, and as a part of the strategy the search giant is already started providing its services to Thailand and Brazil.
