After teaming up with Qualcomm over connected car technologies, German automaker Daimler is now teaming up with Chinese search giant Baidu to source software for its Chinese Mercedes-Benz cars.
Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz branded cars will feature Baidu software, which will allow users to connect their smartphones to the car’s dashboard and access content including music and Internet services.
The deal is expected to strengthen ties between carmakers and the search giant, and is a part of the increasing trend where automakers are seeking help of consumer technology companies to bring about next generation vehicle technology.
Mercedes said that in order to be successful in the country, the company needs to meet the digital lifestyle of younger customers in the country.
In its collaboration with Qualcomm, Daimler is planning to improve in-car experiences and vehicle performance by introducing 3G/4G connectivity and wireless charging technology.
The companies will be working on a Wireless Power Transfer 2.0 high performance programme for electric vehicles, which will allow Mercedes customers to charge their electric vehicles without having to plug it in.
